In 1930 by RSFSR SP council decision the first institute in Kazakhstan begun. The first rector was S.D. Asfendiyarov, a graduating student of Leningrad Navy Medical Academy. For great services and peoples general population health development the medical institute was awarded the Order of the Crimson Banner of Labour in April of 1981.

In 2001 Kazakh State medical university given its name S.D. Asfendiyarov was awarded the high nationwide status of the school. KNMU is 85 Years of age Govt. University. Admission Criteria

Comparing from India for admission in MBBS, it is a 4.5 years course, here Kazakhstan it is of 5 years. Apart from this difference in duration the pattern is somewhat similar to Indian pattern. After completion applicant will be awarded a MBBS degree which is recognised globally.

Students are required to submit their educational documents needed in academic formalities in university while admission procedure. Once a student receives the admission letter and gets visa confirmed, he is set to go for MBBS studies.

An aspirant carrying a minimum of 50% marks in 12th Standard in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and the NEET Qualified according to NMC guidelines.

There is no entrance test required, admission is granted on first come first served basis.

The student should have completed the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
